Will Jon's Game return in 2009?

Sometimes I find myself asking questions. The current one on my mind is "Will Jon's Game return in 2009?"

I believe that all of the conditions have been met. The book is written. There is a desire to play (at least from the players end).

What are the barriers? Converting to Pathfinder? Time for Jon to plan? A deadline?

  1. I followed the link thinking there might be a poll. Alas, there was not.

Is there a desire for this game?
    From the players?
    From Jon?
From the pizza delivery guy who might be sponsering the game?

Even if Jon had expressed a desire to run his game. Something he dreaded for days prior to each session he did run it. Would he even want to convert to pathfinder. Something else he dreaded for so many months before we returned to Daves' pirate game.

In re-reading this post prior to posting, I had to correct a Freudian typo. I had typed the word 'fun', opposed to 'run' in the previous paragraph(I fixed it, so don't look). And while we had lots of 'fun' when Jon would 'run' his game, he fretted about it. Maybe he is not ready to pick it up again yet.

But, as always, we the blog readers await futher comments from everyone on this subject.

  2. I've always wondered why Jon ran a game at all, since all he did was fret about it. I would love it if he started it up again and converted to Pathfinder -- I wanna see what Caleb would do with alla them new fighter feats.

  3. I did not want to do polls for everything. I am hoping to revive interest in the blogs.

Just trying to do a little alternate GM stick poking.

Jon always seems to dread running a game but they are always fun. His MSWAT and Earthdawn games were very memorable. I also really enjoyed his D&D game.

Just hoping to plant a seed. I do like playing too and right now I am running 3 Pathfinder games. I enjoy running but it is different kind of enjoyment when I get to play.

  4. Wait, is Keith angling for a Sunday where all he does is... PLAY? How is that possible?

  5. I know, it seems like the dream of a mad man but what is life without dreams?

  6. I like the idea of restarting my game, but in practice I'm pretty happy not running. Still, I should make a decision on this once and for all. Every day that goes by makes it more and more difficult to resume.

Here are the issues, in no particular order:

    1. Our player count is higher than it used to be. I'm more comfortable running smaller games.

    2. I knew/know 3.5 rules, a little. I hate to continue with it if the group's moved on but I don't know when/if I'll be up to speed on Pathfinder or when I'd have time for a conversion if I were to switch. (And my comfort level of "faking it" with a system I don't know is about zero.)

    3. I never thought I had enough time to prepare before. My schedule hasn't thinned out any. Nor has extra typing become any easier.

    4. I'm not sure how many of the campaign details I remember. I think I still know the big picture stuff and I might have notes on the lesser stuff. Figuring out which pieces are retrievable (from memory or notes) would be useful.

    5. I did have some ideas for the campaign way back when and I would like to see them finally play out. If reasonably possible.

    6. Having players that still want it to come back after 3 years is a big plus.

As for will it return in 2009? Let's say that if it doesn't, it just won't return.

  7. I can appreciate if you do not want to run or do not have the time. It would just be nice to find out what was next for the characters. It did not seem as if we left off in a comfortable stopping place. The game was fun.

Is the amount of player really that different? We have the core four (Bruce, Dave, Christian and myself.) We used to have Shawn and Richard. Now we have Russ, Randy and Brian. (Russ usually only makes the second session and didn't Randy have a character already? Some sort of Russian Wizard?)

As for the details, the players are just as fuzzy. Really we do not remember much other than that inn burning incident, Jozan's brother Fredrick and that McCally is a +2 bard. (well maybe there are a few more things ...)

Just some things to keep in mind.
