We are on schedule for our game this coming Sunday.
I plan on running my Pathfinder game. I expect that we will complete the adventure that I have been running for the last couple of months. (This time for sure.) I can run either the early or the late session.
Christian should be on tap for his Champions game.
See you Sunday.

Game This Sunday, 12/6/09
We are on schedule for our game this coming Sunday.
I plan on running my Pathfinder game. I expect that we will complete the adventure that I have been running for the last couple of months. I can run either the early or the late session.
I would still like to get a list of what classes the characters advanced in when going to 7th level so that I can update the web site.

Game this Sunday
I will be continuing the adventure that I started last month. I believe that I am slotted to run the evening game.
Please remember to pick your traits. The PDF can be downloaded at http://paizo.com/traits.
I would also like to know what class level you increased when you went to 7th.

The Head of Vecna
Found this story on the Facebook/D&D forum and decided it was too good to pass up:
Head of Vecna
From Steve Jackson Games website....
Many years ago (back when we all were still playing D & D), I ran a game where I pitted two groups against each other.
Several members of Group One came up with the idea of luring Group Two into a trap. You remember the Hand of Vecna and the Eye of Vecna that were artifacts in the old D&D world where if you cut off your hand (or your eye) and replaced it with the Hand of Vecna (or the Eye) you'd get new awesome powers? Well, Group One thought up The Head of Vecna.
Group One spread rumors all over the countryside (even paying Bards to spread the word about this artifact rumored to exist nearby). They even went so far as to get a real head and place it under some weak traps to help with the illusion. Unfortunately, they forgot to let ALL the members of their group in on the secret plan (I suspect it was because they didn't want the Druid to get caught and tell the enemy about this trap of theirs, or maybe because they didn't want him messing with things).
The Druid in group One heard about this new artifact and went off in search of it himself (I believe to help prove himself to the party members...) Well, after much trial and tribulation, he found it; deactivated (or set off) all the traps; and took his "prize" off into the woods for examination. He discovered that it did not radiate magic (a well known trait of artifacts) and smiled gleefully.
I wasn't really worried since he was alone and I knew that there was no way he could CUT HIS OWN HEAD OFF. Alas I was mistaken as the Druid promptly summoned some carnivorous apes and instructed them to use his own scimitar and cut his head off (and of course quickly replacing it with the Head of Vecna...)
Some time later, Group one decided to find the Druid and to check on the trap. They found the headless body (and the two heads) and realized that they had erred in their plan (besides laughing at the character who had played the Druid)...The Head of Vecna still had BOTH eyes! They corrected this mistake and reset their traps and the Head for it's real intended victims...
Group Two, by this time, had heard of the powerful artifact and decided that it bore investigating since, if true, they could use it to destroy Group One. After much trial and tribulation, they found the resting place of The Head of Vecna! The were particularly impressed with the cunning traps surrounding the site (one almost missed his save against the weakest poison known to man). They recovered the Head and made off to a safe area.
Group Two actually CAME TO BLOWS (several rounds of fighting) against each other argueing over WHO WOULD GET THEIR HEAD CUT OFF! Several greedy players had to be hurt and restrained before it was decided who would be the recipient of the great powers bestowed by the Head... The magician was selected and one of them promptly cut his head off. As the player was lifting The Head of Vecna to emplace it on it's new body, another argument broke out and they spent several minutes shouting and yelling. Then, finally, they put the Head onto the character.
Well, of course, the Head simply fell off the lifeless body. All members of Group Two began yelling and screaming at each other (and at me) and then, on their own, decided that they had let too much time pass between cutting off the head of a hopeful recipient and put the Head of Vecna onto the body.
SO THEY DID IT AGAIN!... [killing another PC]
In closing, it should be said that I never even cracked a smile as all this was going on. After the second PC was slaughtered, I had to give in (my side was hurting)...
And Group Two blamed ME for all of that...

The Unnecessary Nerfing of Spiked Chain
Not that I'm running at game at the moment, but spiked chain will still be a reach weapon in both my campaigns.
That's all you really need to know. If you want the sordid history, keep reading.
Back in 3.5 and Pathfinder Beta, it was possible to pimp the system using spiked chain, Combat Reflexes, Improved Trip, and Spring Attack. It was even worse if you could somehow finagle a character that had reach. It went down like this:
Wait for target to pass thru your threatened area. Ding! AoE! On your turn, 5 ft step to the right, Spring Attack 15 feet away. Lather, rinse, repeat. Double the AoE if you have reach of your own, which means 2 free attacks every turn with Combat Reflexes.
OR
Using the Trip Monkey build, use a trip attack for your AoE, opponent falls. Ding! Another AoE. Standing up in your threatened area? Ding! AoE!
This exploit isnt valid anymore. Combat Reflexes (may only AoE an opponent once, no matter how many of your threatened squares he runs thru) and Spring Attack (must move more than 5ft before and after to use) have been slightly nerfed to stop it. Trip has been significantly nerfed (split into 2 feats) to stop it.
So, no reason to nerf spiked chain, but here we are. The special qualities for spiked chain now are Trip and Disarm. If all you want is a weapon that does Trip and Disarm, get a heavy flail and it wont cost you an exotic weapon feat, plus it will average more damage.
So; my game. Spiked chains keep their reach.

Looks like it is Christian and Keith running on Sunday
Dave is out as GM for this month so I will be running the other game. If there are no objections, I would like to run the early session.
I will continue with the Falcon's Hollow Pathfinder game. It is the same characters but we will be starting something new as you finished the adventure last session. Your characters should now be 7th level. I do not remember if I told you that last time (back in August).
Besides raising a level, please make sure that your characters have been converted to the new Pathfinder RPG rules. Some things have changed. Some changes a subtle and others are major. If there is something that requires a respec to do the conversion and you have questions please let me know.
Christian will we running Hero/Champions for the other session.
I am expecting Bruce, Dave, Christian, Jon and myself. Brian is a maybe for the first session. I am not sure of Randy's status and Russ will not be attending as it is the last week of Festival.

Who is running on October 4th?
I just wanted to check to see who is running on the next Sunday Game scheduled for 10/4/09?
Christian - Champions?
Dave - Pathfinder?
Keith - Pathfinder?
(Jon mentioned to possibility of running again but I am confident that he is not yet ready to take the plunge this month.)
As this is less than 2 weeks away, I need to know if I am running and which characters I need to create and/or update.
BTW can someone post recaps of what has happened last month in the games?

Game on this Sunday
We are scheduled to play on this coming Sunday. I will be running the first session satarting at 2:00 PM. We will be finishing the current adventure and may start another. Please plan to bring your current character and a leveled to 7th level version with you.
Dave will be running the evening session starting around 7:00 PM. We just leveled to 13th so I do not believe that we are anywhere close to advancing again for a while.

Treasure for Dave's Sunday Game
Dave,
Can you post the treasure list for Sunday on the blog before next weekend?
I believe that we just leveled to 13th. True?
Thanks,
Keith

June date is now in May
It looks like we have enough support to move the June Sunday game to May 31st. Same time, same place, same games ... just a differnt day.
I will take the early shift leaving Dave with the later slot.
We can discuss July when we get together but it is looking like July 12th will be the date.

June and July scheduling conflicts
It looks like I will not be able to make the games scheduled for June 7th or July 5th.
Is anyone interested in and/or able to move the dates of these sessions? If we can push them back by a week, I think that I could make both June 14th and July 12th work.
If we cannot move the dates, I will not be able to run my game and someone will have to fill my time slots.
Please vote using the polls.

Games on this Sunday ... Undead is the word.
Dave and I are both planning to run on Sunday. I plan to take the early shift from 2:00 to dinner. Dave is slotted for the post-dinner to close spot.
In my game, you are still under the dwarven monestary searching for the cause of the undead menace.
In Dave's game, we are making our preparations for turning the last few bauble pieces over to Zakhi and breaking the curse. We do not know what this will do for the undead under his command.
See you on Sunday.

Future Planning - Confirmation
Based on the voting input, it looks like I should plan to start running an adventure path after I have finished the adventures that I have in queue. (I still have the current adventure and up to two more after that.)
The next question is: which adventure path?
The options are:
Curse of the Crimson Throne - Set in Varisia around the city of Korvosa
The King has died, and the city of Korvosa is in chaos! Riots, banditry, monsters, and mayhem are turning the normally safe streets of the city into a war zone. Desperate to regain control of her city, Queen Ileosa seeks heroes to aid her in reclaiming control before the largest city in all Varisia consumes itself from within.
Second Darkness - Set in Varisia around the city of Riddleport
The elves of the Mierani Forest have been hiding something from outside eyes for hundreds of years, but now, this sinister secret has escaped. What at first seems to be a sudden uprising in unsanctioned banditry in the Riddleport hinterlands is in fact something altogether more menacing.
Legacy of Fire - Set in Katapesh around the city of Katapesh. It should have an Arabian Nights/Middle Eastern sort of feel.
In the exotic nation of Katapesh, a land of fortune and wonders, heroes are those with the courage to command their destinies. Such wisdom leads a daring band to the abandoned village of Kelmarane with the hopes of reestablishing the once prosperous community.
Please vote on the one that sounds the most interesting to you. I would like to get an idea of which one that I should start preparing to run.

Planning for Sunday
I am trying to plan for next Sunday's session. I have a new adventure that I am ready to start but I am looking for input from the players.
Your characters are currently between adventures. Before I start the next one, are there any housekeeping issues that you would like to take care of such as equipment sales and purchases? Are there any local Falcon's Hollow storylines that you want to follow-up upon or start?
Your characters are now 6th level. Please make sure that you have a current, leveled, Pathfinder Beta copy when you arrive. You should be fresh on hit points, stat damage, spells, etc. The only outstanding condition that I am aware is the lack of teeth for Pariah. (Currently the group does not have a fix for this issue.)
I believe that I am slated for the 2:00 pre-dinner session. Dave is on deck for the post dinner session.
With an eye toward the longer term future ...
I currently have three more adventures that work for these characters and the region of the world where they currently are adventuring. This should provide several months of material and take you up to 9th or 10th level. After that, I do not have anything planned but I certainly could figure out something.
I am curious if the group would like to continue adventuring with these characters or would you be interested in starting a new adventure path designed to take characters from 1st to around 16th level. I am currently running one of these on Saturdays. The guys on Saturday seem to really like the adventure path experience so far. I own two more also set in Varisia. Another one starts coming out in March and will be completely published byAugust. It is set in Katapesh on the southern contenent. It is supposed to have an Arabian Nights sort of feel. The next adventure path (the fifth) will come out starting in August/September using the new Pathfinder RPG rules. It will be set in Cheliax.
Running D&D/Pathfinder is working out for me because most of the prep work is already done. I just need to read the adventure and make a few tweaks. I admit that I am not adding a lot of originallity to the end product. If you would like to take a break from fantasy, I could also try to pull together/revive a Champions game or I could let someone else run for a while.
I have set up a poll. Please let me know what you think. You will only be able to select a single preference.

Will Jon's Game return in 2009?
Sometimes I find myself asking questions. The current one on my mind is "Will Jon's Game return in 2009?"
I believe that all of the conditions have been met. The book is written. There is a desire to play (at least from the players end).
What are the barriers? Converting to Pathfinder? Time for Jon to plan? A deadline?
Keith

There is no Kay in Prirate
Since we are not currently expecting Kay to attend, will the plot points related to her character and related NPCs go fallow or should we expect to follow up upon them?
If so, can we get a refresher of details surrounding her plot?

Web Site Updated - 1/22/09
I have updated my web site with material related to the Sunday "Heroes of Falcon's Hollow" game. The events of last game are summarized under the "Return of the Kobold King" link.
The direct link to the game page is http://sites.google.com/site/zombiehomepage/Home/zombie-s-d-d-pathfinder-page/heroes-of-falcon-s-hollow-sunday
Please let me know if there is anything that you would like me to add.
The next game is 2/1/09 at 2:00. Bring a leveled copy of your character. It is likely that you will raise a level during the session. I will be running the early session and Dave will be running the evening session.
